I am so excited as I write this post. Getting the photos together, I felt so proud. Each of these necklaces is handmade by me and I have a super neat reason as to why I chose fairy doors. As I look through the photos, I see a marked improvement from the first ones I tried, to the ones I’m making now. For that reason, I put the photos in the order I made them. So let’s talk about these fun and whimsical pieces and why I’m so excited.
I was a jewelry maker back in the day and I always made these Anxiety Rings, but I retired……at 14. As a kid, a distant family member got me into jewelry making and I kind of took off with it. I had a lot of fun with it and I did a pretty good job at designing pieces. With wonderful family support, I decided to turn it into a little business. Mom and dad were wonderful enough to haul me to craft shows at least once a month and help me with the tedious set up and tear down involved with pieces so small. At 12, I’m sure I was an outstanding help too (insert sarcasm here.)

Of course with any true business venture, no matter how small, it takes some money and some planning. Mom and dad helped me with this greatly. Since jewelry making was my only source of income at that age, I had to re-invest some of the money I made for supplies, and of course, save some. At that time in my life, I just wanted to spend it. I wasn’t ready for the responsibility and I had burned myself out, so I finally just gave it up altogether like the silly kid I was at the time.
Over the years, I dabbled in it on and off and I tried new jewelry making methods and learned lots of new things, but I always ended up putting it aside.
Recently, I was on one of my jewelry kicks and I was in a craft store with a friend when I saw some fairy door charms. I had seen them before but this time it was different. This time I got an inspiration.

Remember my fairy garden post a couple weeks ago? I talked about how my town was doing a fairy door trail and how even though it only started last year, it got just a little bigger this year. I love all things whimsical, but sometimes, there can be a lack of the magical in small towns. I am so fortunate that I am in a small town that has embraced the fun and fantastical.
When I saw these charms and the glass mushroom beads, I had a clear idea of what I wanted to do and make. It was so awesome to have that inspiration back again and that desire to create. Since then, I’ve created and enjoyed making so many necklaces, plus a few other random pieces. A couple I haven’t even had a chance to photograph yet. As I post them on social media, I can’t believe the love I have gotten, not only from people in our lovely town, but also from friends that haven’t gotten to appreciate our fairy door trail yet.

For now, I only sell them through social media, but I am looking at ways to sell them in an actual location when I get some stock built up, but I’ve been busy and having lots of fun with custom orders recently. Sometime I’ll have to do a post about my lava bead essential oil diffuser bracelets that people seem to love too.
While I am excited to come out of retirement and hit the jewelry scene again, I can tell you two things. The first thing is that I wish I had listened to my parents advice, and this time around, I know how to manage money a little better thanks to their teaching and life. The second thing is that I still don’t like doing craft shows! Bless those that do them because those early mornings hauling all that stuff (many times in the winter thanks to Christmas shows) is not for me. Fortunately, over a decade later, social media and shops that offer booths to vendors have grown in popularity and I intend to make full use of their awesomeness and sleep in.
