I debated making this post since I had intended my blog for 4 categories: Coffee, Baking, Style, and Beauty. However, I decided that hearing about the life of the person behind the blog could be interesting too. Besides, all of my posts are reading optional. *wink wink* After all, I chose these four categories because my life tends to revolve around them. So here we go into my first post about my life!

As I mentioned in a previous post about my fairy door necklaces, I was into jewelry making at one point but I “retired” at the ripe old age of 15. I had so much fun making these fairy door necklaces that I got an idea for matching key bracelets and I took off with those too. I finally decided that I was officially back in the game.

My official entry back into the scene was made possible by the wonderful people at the Nauvoo Marketplace. It’s this wonderful place where lots of local talent comes together. They have over 80 vendors of every type you can imagine! From gifted people like my mom who work magic with vintage furniture, to people like me who create tiny magic with fantastical jewelry pieces, you can find anything you’re looking for and then some.

I also have my mom to thank. When she went to restock her booth, she took the first step for me and asked about a booth for my stuff. Moms are the best! She knew I needed that small nudge in order to do what I really wanted. She delivered the best news I could have heard- there was a literal open door for me. The brilliant owner decided to rent vintage doors out to those vendors that could make use of them and the price was perfect for someone who was just starting out.

I was concerned about accruing all the display items I would need, but the use of the door eliminated my need for most of those, which was excellent. I went back to the drawing board for display ideas and my mom had the idea of wrapping the door in lace and twine and using that to hang my pieces. As I was searching the craft section for my materials, I discovered this dyed burlap. I remembered the purple fabric I had never done anything with just laying around in my closet and picked up a color of burlap to match.

Getting my door all set up couldn’t have gone better. I had intended to wrap the door, but they offered me hooks that hung from the top and they held the burlap in place beautifully. My purple fabric draped over the hooks hid them and made it look like my door had an awning and the idea mom had for bending paper clips to use as hooks went beautifully.

As I stood back and surveyed my display, I was so proud and I realized how blessed I was to have this chance. So far, I’ve been focusing on getting the word out there and it’s gone wonderful. Ive decided to add Morse Code bracelets to my collection since then and they also got a great reception. I stated with the phrase “I love you” and I’m adding “Let it be” this week with more phrases to follow. The freedom to create has been fantastic!

I’m excited about this new “door” I’ve chosen and I can’t wait to tell you guys more about the journey as I go along. Meanwhile, if you have any jewelry ideas for me, I can always use some fresh input!
