If you’re walking around on this earth, chances are that you have heard of subscription boxes. There’s even a good chance that you have a subscription or two coming to your mailbox.
I have no idea who started the trend, but they’re a genius! I have been a subscriber to a couple in the past and I recently re-discovered my love for them when I got this amazing surprise from a friend.

I have to say that I didn’t even know this existed until I got the email notification that it was coming to my house. After a recent birthday, my best friend informed me that my gift was ordered but that it would be late in arriving because it “hadn’t been created yet.” This piqued my interest and I asked him about a million questions to which he answered expertly so I had not the faintest clue what I would be receiving.
I finally got an e-mail from a company called BeadCrate informing me that he had gifted me with a 3 month subscription. I had never heard of this BeadCrate so I clicked their link to explore. I quickly discovered it was a monthly subscription box for jewelry makers delivering high quality- and often hard to find- jewelry supplies, namely beads, in a cool themed box.

I was thrilled! It was definitely perfect for me since I’m getting back into jewelry making after years of being away from it. When the box finally came, I tore into it eagerly and I was immediately overwhelmed. It came with a typed letter talking about the box and its theme, which happened to be “Magic Carpet.” This was perfect for me since I have a bit of gypsy in my style and I love the whimsical. The beads were so gorgeous and it even came with tassels and a precious little genie lamp charm. My mind whirled with the creative possibility and I couldn’t wait until after work when I would have time to create.

The only negative thing I can possibly say about BeadCrate is that most of the beads had an opening that was .5mm or less, so at least 80% of the contents weren’t able to be used on 1mm cording, which is my main material since I really love doing adjustable/sliding knot pieces.
While I was completely bummed that most of these exquisite pieces wouldn’t fit on the waxed cotton I use for my Fairy Door and Key Collection, I still had plenty of ideas and uses for what I got.

I have included pictures of a few of the pieces I’ve made featuring the beads from this crate. I haven’t had it for very long so all I’ve managed is bracelets, but I need to make a run to a crafting supply store soon because I got a really cool idea for earrings I want to make with the tassels and those blue gray leaves I am quite obsessed with.

I plan to do reviews on the next two boxes that I get so I can share the awesome products with you guys. Do I plan to continue my subscription after my 3 months are up? I don’t know for sure yet. As I said, it’s a bummer that most of the beads won’t fit on my cord of choice, but I also really love the beads and I like the pieces I’ve made so far. One crate just isn’t enough to decide. However, they do offer a one time shipment for those wanting to try it out. I’ll include the link below.
